Here is the link to the comprehensive list for things contraindicated with BVT
Thanks to Ashli Hara for putting this together. Bee blessings
Contraindicated with BVT
This is a list of things that are known to be contraindicated, interfere, or be perfectly fine used in conjunction with BVT. This list may not be fully complete, and is not intended to give medical advice. As always, consult your doctor regarding any medical issues. Should you choose to do bee venom therapy with live bees at home, this list may be helpful.
Contraindicated with BVT:
Beta-blockers – if the epipen is needed, these block its efficacy
Alcohol – no Alcohol 24 hours before OR after stings – also do not put alcohol on the stings. Alcohol applied topically cancels the venom.
Ibuprofen, Advil, Celebrex, etc – these increase risk of anaphylaxis. Tylenol, aspirin, or willow bark products may be okay
Blood Thinners or anticoagulants – BVT is already a blood thinner.
Biofilm/cyst busters – BVT is already a potent biofilm and cyst buster. Adding more could cause bad herx (eg flagyl, tindamax, tinidazole, enzymes, etc)
LDI – low dose immunotherapy - BVT already boosts your immune system
MAOI's - can increase risk of a hypertensive episode
Ozone therapy, MMS, Chlorine Dioxide, HBOT – Because Ozone + BVT is a controversial topic, you may want to do your own research into this. The whole point of BVT is to make the condition acute, and to allow for real and complete healing. Ozone kills off the pathogens in the blood and thus keeps it from becoming acute. In this way, ozone may interfere with the efficacy of BVT, by inhibiting it's main benefit: making the condition acute again, and thus curable again. The theory is that ozone may kill of pathogens in the blood, but can't reach everywhere, so while remission can be achieved with ozone, it is generally not considered a cure. In contrast, BVT makes the condition acute again, and the hope is that it gives the chance for full and complete healing, and the possibility of eliminating all of the pathogens, in a deeper way, a cure. According to this theory, ozone may take away the possibility of complete healing if used in conjunction with BVT, making only remission possible. If you want to play it safe, no ozone with BVT.
Antihistamines, Benadryl – cancels out BVT – instead, if your stings itch, use tiger balm, or make your own coconut oil and essential oils blend. You can also Ice your back, that helps, but don't do it right after stings, we want the venom to move thruogh you, not get cold and stagnated. It also may be helpful to go on the anti-histamine diet for the first few months of BVT if you are having histamine issues.
Steroids - bc they are an immunosuppressant and BVT boosts the immune system - they counteract each other. (hydrocortisone- see next list)
Mepron - is not your friend while doing BVT; best to wean off asap. This drug suppresses basesia, so hides it from the venom. Lowers therapeutic value of the venom.
Lyme Antigen Colostrum - like in the Cowden protocol, is best avoided. It may compete with the venom.
Ginsing - is not recommended with BVT possibly because it's a blood thinner and also because it may suppress the immune system
Pregnancy or Breastfeeding – no BVT while pregnant - it can cause miscarriage or early delivery. The jury is out on whether or not breastfeeding is ok while doing BVT.
Ideally you want to cut down on all pharmaceuticals and supplements as you can.
The fewer things you are taking, the more effective BVT can be. Of course, you need to monitor this, based on your own experience, and only taper down on things as your body allows for it. Be gentle with yourself. Just know that with BVT, less is more.
IFFY :
While not contraindicated, many medications can interfere with BVT – so while you can use these, it's best to taper down if and as you can, to make BVT more effective. BVT helps with all these things so ideally they won't be necessary after a few months of BVT. Some on this list are fine to use, but just need care to be taken around them, so they don't produce too strong of a hrex.
Rx Antidepressants, Anti-anxiety drugs, Benzos, Xanax, etc – some herbs may be okay, the jury is out. It's best to taper off these as you can. Know that BV has measurable amounts of neurotransmitters, and over time, BV can help address the imbalances and help alleviate depression and anxiety
Antibiotics - are okay to keep taking in the beginning of BVT, but eventually, after a few months, you want to consider weaning off of them, in order to get the full benefit of BVT
Seizure meds – gentle supplements may eventually be able to replace them (theanine, phenitropic, taurine, gaba)
Sleep meds – sleep is very important for healing, so use what you must as needed. Eventually BVT may help you to wean off these and use natural things when possible, ie. melatonin
Antimicrobials – you can use these but be careful that they don't produce too intense herx
Cannabis/ CBD oil - can totally be used but just be careful as it can produce additional herx
Caffeine - is best avoided at least in the beginning to protect adrenals and kidneys. If you do drink it, make sure to have it at least a few hours away from vitamin C because it blocks vitamin C, and increases heart rate.
Saunas - Saunas are great but not on sting days. You don't want to sweat out any of the venom
Spicy foods - on sting days, and the night before stings, spicy foods can make you itch more
Turmeric - it's fine in moderation but this is a blood thinner so be careful not to overdo it
Bentonite Clay - avoid on sting days. is iffy for non-sting days- it can pull out good things too
Hydrocortisone - low doses at the beginning of BVT are okay but you'll want to wean off this as you can. As you taper down, your adrenal function will improve, which is key to healing.
Kidney insufficiency – you need to be careful – if you have kidney issues, you may need to offer your kidneys support during BVT. Many people do Castor oil packs every night on liver and kidneys, drink dandelion tea, thistle tea, take Pekana homeopathics "detox and drainage kit" (let the alcohol in the drops evaporate before taking) – if you have kidney issues – you may want to avoid foods that are processed through the kidneys: dairy, coffee, chocolate, etc.
Know that there are people who had major kidney issues before going into BVT and the venom was able to heal their kidneys, when used appropriately (go slow with ramping up the stings, and take care of your kidneys and liver)
These things are known to be PERFECTLY FINE with BVT:
These are just the things people have asked about in the groups. There are many more things that are known to be just fine with BVT - people seem to have questions about these, so they are included.
Vitamins - in fact it's good to take vitamins while doing BVT
Minerals - also can help with feeling better
Homeopathics (if they have alcohol, you put the drops into water and let sit out overnight – the alcohol will evaporate off, making them safe to take. Alternately, you can drop them into hot water -over 105 degrees, which will burn off the alcohol, making them safe for use).
LDN – works for many people, not for everyone
Binders - Chlorella, charcoal, pectin, are great with BVT, (whereas bentonite clay is iffy in general and a no-go on sting days)
Kratom - can be used for pain and is safe to use with BVT- research this before using
Sodium Bicarbonate - it's in alka seltzer gold, which is recommended on non sting days. you want to be careful with this though in general, you don't want to overdo it and become too alkaline, it's dangerous
Apple Cider Vineger (ACV) - good to take every day in water during BVT
Stevia - a natural sugar free sweetener - is fine with BVT
Quercitin, DAO - it also may be beneficial to go on a low histamine diet during the first few months of BVT if you experience histamine issues. BVT helps with these too though, with time
Recommended or Can be Helpful with BVT:
Vitamin C - MINIMUM 3 grams a day, taken in divided doses throughout the day so your adrenals have a constant supply - helps protect adrenals - gives them the vitamins to work
Magnesium - some kinds are more absorbable than others
Multivitamin - or separate vitamins to control dosage
Adrenal support - not everyone needs this and BVT balances your adrenals over time, but it can be helpful in the beginning - (herbal or adrenal cortex).
Getting your genetics tested - can help with figuring out what kind of support you need for detox - so can help with the herxes
Lemon water and/or ACV in water - everyday (1 or 2 Tablespoons in water is a normal dose) - it's also antifungal so be aware of this
Alkaseltzer gold - on non sting days
Epsom salt baths - on non sting days
Castor Oil Packs - on liver and kidneys - nightly (if you experience pain in liver of kidneys, this is a good practice to pick up)
Homemade Balm, Tiger Balm - You can make your own balm to relieve itching at the sting sites: coconut oil, plus essential oils (peppermint, lemongrass, teatree, valor, etc), you can add in tiger balm for the menthol, and you can add in shea butter to reduce scarring from the stings. Just remember not to put anything on recent stings. You want to wait several hours, or better, till the next day, before putting on the balm.
Bee Products, Honey, Propolis, etc - Honey is anti-fungal, anti-candida, and Propolis can be very healthy - you do want to be careful with propolis, starting with just one granule at first, and gradually increase your dose, because it can produce a herx. Bee venom eye drops and sinus washes can be found online.
Things you Always want to have with you when you do your stings:
Epipen - always have on hand in case of anaphylaxis
Children's alcohol free benadryl - if need epipen, then take this as well to ease reaction
Take vitamin C - 1 hour before stings
A charged Cell Phone - if should you need any assistance
More Information:
Also, make sure to Follow the Protocol - Do not do more stings than the protocol allows for and never sting two days in a row. Ramp up slowly by a max of 2 stings added per week (If you have MTHFR you may need to ramp up only by 1 sting per week). Once you have been stinging for a few months, and are at 10 spine stings each session, then you can *occasionally* add in extra stings elsewhere, such as joints, jaw. etc - but in general stick to the 10 stings on the spine and that's it. It is not advised to do 12 or 13 stings every session. Know that most symptoms will be taken care of just by the spine stings.
This is potent medicine. When done correctly and in proper dosage BVT is considered a safe therapy with few side effects. There are a few No-No's and avoiding them will help keep you safe:
The protocol is designed to keep you safe, while still being effective. So follow the rules: once you work up to 10 stings: 10 spine stings per session max, and occasionally you can do a couple additional stings elsewhere, but not every session. Do NOT ever go above 40 stings per week. These rules are the same regardless of your bodyweight.
